FLU SHOTS (2010)
This year flu shots will be provided by appointment only. Currently we are booking flu shots most Weekdays between 8 and 9am, as well as Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Please contact the office to book an appointment at 519 569-8821.
The Canadian National Advisory Committee on Immunization recommends influenza vaccination (the flu shot) for all persons greater than 6 months of age. It is especially important for children aged 6 months to 5 years, all persons over the age of 65, and for patients with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, chronic lung disease, heart disease, cancer, kidney disease, anemia and pregnancy. In general, we advise all patients over the age of 6 months to get an annual flu shot. Adverse reactions to the flu shot are uncommon and generally are restricted to soreness at the injection site.
If you are 65 years of age or older it is recommended that you receive the “high-dose” flu vaccine. This is available both through our office and at your local pharmacy. Unfortunately, supply for high-dose flu vaccine is sometimes limited from public health. We apologize if it is not available at the time of your booking. The most important is that you are vaccinated.
We encourage ALL of our patients to get a flu shot wherever is most convenient.
If you are 65 years of age or older and get a flu shot at another location, please either call or leave a message on our cancellation line to let us know that you received your vaccine; we’d like to update your record.
